Preparing Your Lips for Glitter Lips

1st Mar 2015

When buying new makeup and beauty products, we have all fallen victim to purchasing products purely after seeing the perfect pictures of size 8 models with their flawless skin and their perfectly applied make up.  We all know they use photo editing software to enhance the products and fix cellulite, but actually, most models wouldn’t need it anyway.  Undercover Glamour’s Director Catherine Peck (who is also a model) has worked with many companies that don’t use photo editors at all, and if you’ve seen her pictures, you can see how perfect her skin is!

I am not going to lie, mostly, perfect skin comes from eating healthily, exercising regularly and drinking lots of water.  But unlike Catherine (who loves fitness) I am extremely lazy, and I love really unhealthy food.  So how can I possibly keep my skin soft and flawless without changing my lifestyle?  I did some research, and tried out a few techniques.  My favourites are listed below.

how to apply glitter lipstick

Firstly, you need to exfoliate, (this is the most important step).

You can use anything that is slightly rough to do this – shop bought face washes, an exfoliating mitt, you can create your own or you can even use a toothbrush.
The best mix I have found is a blend of brown sugar, a tiny bit of extra virgin olive oil and a little cinnamon (if you replace the sugar with charcoal powder you can use this as a face mask).  Rub this gently in a circular motion all over your face, and rinse off.

You can exfoliate your lips by using your toothbrush over your lips in small circles.  Make sure you rinse them and moisturise afterwards, (this is awesome when you are wearing lipstick because it helps to give a perfectly straight line, and prevents it from cracking and going dry).  If you still have a problem with dry lips, get a moist tea bag (make sure it is cool first) and dab this over them or use a good lip balm.

Now, when applying lipstick it’s always handy to have a base on first, you can use lip primer for this… or instead of wasting money, you can just use your foundation.  This will help lighten the colour of your lips to enhance the colour of your lipstick, as well as helping the lipstick stay on with minimal staining.

An extra little hint to prevent lipstick/ lipcolour bleeding would be to grab yourself a little cotton bud and coat it in translucent face powder, then apply this carefully around your lip line.

And finally…

It is time to apply your Glitter Lips – here’s a video tutorial from Beauty Boulevard, the creators of Glitter Lips!
