20th Sep 2025

At Undercover Glamour, we love celebrating confidence, fun and wellbeing — and no one represents that better than our founder, Catherine Peck. Alongside running the business, Catherine works professionally as a stunt woman on the British Stunt Register, actor, and model. Catherine needs to update her casting pictures again to keep them current for the year ahead, and as she is starting to plan her next casting pictures; she wanted to share with you how to get a professional looking casting shot.  We’re excited to share how she prepared her latest ones and how she uses the same beauty tools as our customers love.

How Catherine Prepared Her Casting Photos (with Practical Tips You Can Use Too for Female Casting Pictures)

To keep the images authentic while still looking polished, Catherine used a few of her favourite techniques — and the same beauty products we supply to our actors, brides, and everyday customers.  See her 5 top tips below.

1. Invest in a Hair Stylist/ Makeup Artist to Keep Hair Neat and Natural — but Camera Ready

Catherine cannot promote this one enough.  You cannot easily monitor your hair while having your photos taken as you should be concentrating on having that lovely friendly looking pose!  The photographer is focused on achieving the correct lighting, and best angles so therefore it is easy for them to miss if a few hair strands have annoyingly fallen over your face or sticking out at some unwanted angle!  Having a hair stylist/ makeup artist present is gold dust as it is their job to make sure your hair looks perfect for the photos; they will jump in and smooth over a flyaway hair or move one back into place.  This speeds up the process and insures you have some great finished photos without the need to be edited.

Sian Duke Makeup Artist styling Catherine Peck

Catherine worked with makeup artist, Sian Duke on her shoot (in the picture above).  Sian added some Undercover Glamour Clip-in Hair Extensions to Catherine's hair to add a little more thickness to her hair.  Sian did not dramatically change Catherine's hair and therefore kept it natural and how Catherine would turn up to work.  As Catherine has very thin and fine hair, our Clip in Hair Extensions are a game changer and have helped her get great jobs in the past.  Having Sian there and jumping in between shots to brush through the hair kept it camera ready.

2. Makeup Artist to Keep Makeup Minimal, Natural and Professional

Having a makeup artist to prep your skin and achieve a beautiful fresh, natural look is top on Catherine's list.  It does make the whole process more expensive, but it is a great investment as great photos will secure you more work.  A professional Makeup Artist will know that they should keep your makeup natural and how you naturally look without overly enhancing your features.  Catherine says having a professional there just takes the pressure off you for the day; they are responsible for making sure your makeup and hair is natural looking and camera ready.   It also gives you confidence as Catherine says she is personally always pleasantly surprised when in her case, makeup artist Sian Duke has prepared her makeup for her.

Sian Duke's makeup artist's casting picture tips:

  • Even skin tone

  • Natural definition

  • No shine from studio lights

  • No heavy contour or dramatic styling (both are a “no” for casting pics)

  • Natural lip colour

3. Choose Plain, Fitted Clothing

Casting photos should show your real shape clearly, while keeping it professional.  You cannot go wrong with a white top and blue jeans, the industry standard for a good casting picture.  As a stunt performer/ stunt woman Catherine choose a white sports bra to show her figure which is useful for when being picked as a good stunt double regarding being a similar shape to your actress.  However, a white fitted vest top works really well too.  For stunt performer casting shots a sports bra top that isn't too revealing is always a good option.  Catherine decided on the jeans and the white top option (as shown) so these images could be used for both her modelling casting pictures and also for her stunt work casting pictures.

Do not wear anything with distracting logos.  For female stunt performer casting shots a tight-fitting sportswear option is a great choice, such as tight fitted gym pants and sports bra to show your figure, while keeping it looking professional.  This helps stunt coordinators, casting directors, and agents instantly understand your physique and proportions.

4. Always Include a Full-Length Body Shot

For stunt performers and actors, a full-body image is essential.  This outfit is not the best choice as a bit busy, but these were for extra images and used for social media.  Catherine made sure her athletic build, posture, and proportions were clearly visible — no dramatic posing, just relaxed confidence.

5. Keep Backgrounds Clean and Simple

Clutter draws focus away from your face and body shape, so keep the background simple.  Catherine used a clear white studio backdrop for the images shown here, and the photographer used even lighting to keep the attention on her.  Other backgrounds that Catherine has used in the past for casting images that work really well; are a plain wall, and a plain (one colour) beach hut to add some real colour to make her pictures stand out which you can see on her British Stunt Register profile, link below.

Updating your casting photos doesn’t have to be complicated — it’s all about professionalism, and attention to detail.  Our company founder, Catherine Peck’s approach shows that with simple planning, the right team, and the proper tools, anyone can create casting shots that highlight their natural appearance in the most flattering light.

From working with a hair and makeup professional and experienced photographer, to choosing plain, fitted clothing and keeping backgrounds clean, these tips ensure your photos are polished, camera-ready, and true to your real look. For stunt performers, actors, and models alike, a full-length, well-lit image combined with natural, confident styling makes all the difference in landing the right roles.

Using Undercover Glamour hair extensions for Catherine and beauty products can help enhance your look without compromising authenticity, showing that professional results are achievable at every stage.  Whether for stunt work, modelling, or acting, following these practical tips will help you put your best self forward — confident, professional, and ready to be seen.
